Flowers and Knitting

I am sure that you have figured out by now that I love my garden and all the beautiful colours in it.
It kinds of reminds me of all the beautiful colours of yarn in the shop.
 Phlox
My Phlox just keep growing and blooming from now until the end of the summer.
I pick off the flower heads after they have bloomed and more blooms appear like magic!
Maluka Shawl
One of our customers - Pam - knit this lovely shawl called Maluka.
She brought it in the show me and I wanted to share it with you.

She used Joy of Soy by The Dye Guy in a shade called Raspberry Ice.
You may recall that I showed you a picture of my
Maluka
knitted in Joy of Soy in Seafoam.
The pattern is easy, looks wonderful and is free on Ravelry.
You can use any fingering weight yarn to create this shawl.

Happy Canada Day!!
We will be closed the first week of July!

Check out our yarn specials in the shop!

Wraps in Style

Yeah - Summer is officially here!
This is a picture of a plant that I have in my front garden
that has bloomed for the first time since I planted it 4 years ago.
It is called a Red Hot Poker.
I saw lots of them in England 5 years ago and thought one would look lovely in my garden.
I was so surprised when it finally started to bloom and cannot believe how fast it has grown..
Since I took this picture - it has gotten "redder" in colour and grown several more inches.

Summer is a great time to knit/crochet small projects.
Think shawls, socks, mitts, hats, baby things, cowls, fingerless gloves, etc....
It might be hot outside, but your home is cool and you want to keep you fingers busy!
It is also lovely and cool here in the shop - so feel free to drop by and sit on our couch and knit/crochet!
Be ready for the Fall and the gift giving season.
Misti Alpaca Fingering

We carried Misti Alpaca Fingering a few years ago and it is back by popular demand.
Make yourself a wonderful shawl - free pattern on their website or a pair of sock that your toes will love.
Silk Whisper Wrapper
Sweaterkits has done it again with this great light weight cowl made of Silk Whisper.
Quick, easy and light weight.

Closed on Mondays for July and August
*****Also closed the first week of July****
No blog post that week!

WWKIPD

A fun time was had by all those who attended.
Knitters were "doing their thing" all around the world at the same time last Saturday as we where.
The Greeters
Diane and Linda and the "newe" employee greeted everyone.
The Spinners
Kelene at the spinning wheel and Natalie with the drop spindle
really impressed everyone with their fiber talents.
It sure make ones appreciate all that is involved with making a ball of yarn.
The Knitters
Kendra and Heather and everyone else had fun knitting with 3 foot long - 100 mm needles
Lots of chatting, laughing, snacking, game playing
and some knitting and crocheted happened through out the day.

Royalty and Knitting and Fingering yarn

I am sure you recognize all the people in the picture below.
The Queen Mother and
Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth
are knitting with yarn sent from Canada
for the war effort.
Trying to figure if this is just a photo "op" or do they really know how to knit.
Whatever!
It is neat - knitting and royalty going together.
I always new that knitters/crocheters were special people!
There is also a short film out there called
 the Royal Road.
In it the princesses are "sort of knitting".
It is kind of funny because Margaret picks up
 some knitting,
 Elizabeth grabs it from her,
looks at it with a puzzled look - trying to figure out what is going with the yarn and needles
and then just puts it down!

Look at these colours!
Just arrived - Lana Grossa Fingering yarn.
The colours are super in this picture but so much nicer in real life!
I can picture so many beautiful wraps, shawls, sock and so much more.
Each colour is "one of  a kind" - so drop by soon to get your special colour.

See you on Sat for Knit in Public Day!
It will be fun!
