Store Hours

I just thought that I should let everyone know about our store hours for the next few weeks.

We will be open on Monday, December 23rd during regular store hours, 10:00am - 5:30pm.

The store will be closed from Tuesday, December 24th through Wednesday, January 1st, 2014.

The store will re-open on Thursday, January 2nd with our regular store hours.

We wish you all the best this holiday season.  See you in the New Year!!

I have to say that our customers have done it again!!

Over the span of this year, our awesome customers have picked up yarn, made squares and brought them in to the store. Another few customers have come along, picked up those squares, taken them home and sewn or crocheted them together.  They bring completed blankets back to the store. Then, we donate the completed blankets to three organizations within Halton Region - Links To Care, The Salvation Army and Halton Women's Place.

I tallied up the number for this year and counted 129 blankets which will be donated back into our community within the next few weeks. Thanks to everyone for their contributions this year!  I know they will be warmly accepted by those who need them.

Hi everyone,

It's me, Linda, again.  I am going to attempt to keep the blog going while Diane is away.  I hope you will bear with me as I am not tech saavy and this is all very new to me.

I just wanted you all to know about the new yarns that have arrived at the store.  We got another shipment of Hedgehog Fibres in some very pretty sock colourways.

The Madeline Tosh has finally all arrived and is gloriously squishy!  There is the Tosh Merino Light (a heavy lace/fingering weight) in 16 colours which makes beautiful shawls and scarves.  We also have the Tosh DK in 17 colours and the Tosh Vintage (worsted) in 12 colours.

Also new to the store is the Manos Del Uruguay Alegria.  It is a sock/fingering weight yarn that is 75% superwash merino-25% polyamide and has the most gorgeous colours!  I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether to make socks or a scarf from it first.  We now have 10 colours of it in stock.

I'd love to show you all the pretty colours as I have been taking pictures of everything as it arrives but I haven't yet figured out how to upload/download (?) the pictures to the computer and then transfer them to the blog.  I did say that I am not tech saavy.  You will just have to come in to see all the pretty new yarns for yourself.  Hope to see you all soon.

Hi everyone,

My name is Linda and I work with Diane at her shop and I am posting on behalf of her today.

It is with a sad heart that I am to let you all know that her husband of 43 years, Bob, passed away, unexpectedly, on Wednesday of this week.  As his family is in town, the visitation and funeral are happening while they still here.

The visitation is today, Friday, November 15, from 2 - 4 pm  and from 7 - 9 pm at JS Jones and Sons Funeral Home, here in Georgetown.  The funeral is to take place tomorrow, Saturday, November 16th at 2:30 pm also at Jones.

We are sure you will understand why the blog did not go out as normal this week.

Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.  Thanks.

New, new and new!

Madelinetosh
is still not here - talked to my sales rep and he said be patient
 - so that is what I am doing and hopefully you are also.
I know it will be worth the wait.
I had a great time at the knitting retreat on the weekend.
Here is a picture of me at my very successful vendors booth at the retreat.
A summary of the retreat -
met up with old friends and made new friends,
took 3 very interesting workshops,
ate too much,
slept too little
and laughed a lot.

Everyone loves fingering weight yarns
- whether it be for socks, wraps, hats or whatever you love to create.
Look at all the great new fingering weight yarns.
Neon - the colour to have
 Bright and fun
 Love the colours
 The British Collection
Opal - the Little Prince Collection
I don't which is the hardest thing
- deciding on the colour or the project.
Always love to see what you create!

Believe it or not!

First of all  hope you had a fun Halloween.
After all the little goblins left
hope you found time to do some knitting as you nibbled on some treats.

This weekend I am off to a knitting retreat past Kingston.
This is the 3rd year I have attended and am looking forward to meeting friends
and learning new ideas and knitting techniques.

According to an email I received this week
our Madeline Tosh yarn will be here in soon!
It has been a long wait for it but I know that it will be worth it.
There will be fingering, dk and kw in lovely fibres and stunning colours.
For those who do not know this yarn - it has a huge following as they absolutely love it!

It is great to highlight projects made by our super customers - take a look at this cute outfit.
Lucky baby to get this outfit!

One of our customers - Debbie - came in awhile ago with an old but very cute pattern
She was looking for yarn and decided on
Berroco Vintage Chunky in 3 colours.
I mentioned that I would love to see the finished outfit and here it is.
Great job Debbie.

We sell such wonderful patterns and yarns to all of you and do not very often see the end results.
We would love to see your creations and you may even get featured in our blog>

Vintage - you will love it!

Everyone love Berroco Vintage yarns.
As a result we keep getting in more and more colours.
Vintage yarns are very popular because of there super colour selection,
the softness of the yarn, its wool/blend fibres and also the fact that it is machine washable.
These are some of the new colours for to pick from.

This wall shows our Vintage KW - 20 sts = 4" on 4.5 mm needle

Vintage DK - 22 sts = 4" on 4.00 mm
You will find this yarn in the front room across from the couch.
You can sit on the couch and admire all the colours.

Vintage Chunky - 14 sts = 4" on 6.00 mm needle
Winter is coming - you may what to knit a chunky "something"!

Remember

Sunstruck + Gioiello

Where was the sun this past long weekend.
Seeing you were likely inside most of the time - hopefully you got some knitting and crocheting done.
I have started a new project with the BlueFaced Aran wool we got in a few weeks ago
- picture to come when it is finished.
In the meantime I finished my Sunstruck shawl - purchased pattern on Ravelry.
I used 3 skeins of the lovely Hedgehog Fibres Sock (fingering) in the tantalizing colours
- Wish, Merlot and Poseidon.
The pattern has lots and lots of short rows and it was fun to do.

You can see from the above picture that the shawl is a lopsided triangle.
It has 12 sections and I chose to do the centre 2 at the point the same colour.
I used all 3 colours in the border.
We are expecting more Hedgehog Fibres next week with lots of new colours.

N"ewe Yarn

 Gioiello
Very soft, 4 stunning colours and a bit of "bling" - what more could you ask for!

A really cute hat

Summer is still here and my flowers are showing their lovely colours.
We have lots and lots of lovely colours in the shop also!
z
Titus
Titus is a new yarn we got in a short while ago and now we have a shop sample.
Linda knit this cute slouch hat.
It looks like it has cables but it is tricking you - it is twisted stitches.
The hat only takes one ball of Titus.
There is also a matching fingerless glove pattern.
Besides the colours shown we now have a rich burgundy colour in stock.
Note the lovely yarn bowl - they are so useful and we have a nice selection at the present time.

Snuggly DK or any DK yarn
Ann H. has been busy knitting again. She has lent us this cute little girls cardigan.
She used
Snuggly DK but it would also be lovely in Dreambaby DK
Baby Merino, Bamtastic or many of the other DK yarns we have.
This pattern goes from newborn to 7 years and you can also do short sleeve or long sleeve.
Thanks Ann - you are a super knitter!

Everyone loves babies and knitting for babies and we have some great patterns and a new yarn in stock.
Peter Pan Merino Baby DK
This is the softest superwash baby wool ever and the patterns are so... cute.
It is a Dk yarn so it can be used for lots of other patterns also.

Talking of babies - look at the cozy baby blanket knit by Kaitlyn A. - one of our newer knitters.
She did a fantastic job knitting it.
Kaitlyn used Estelle Baby Bunting which is very soft and cozy. It comes in 10 different colours - so just think of all the wonderful combinations you can put together.

Our trip

I am feeling a bit better and so is Bob.
I have finally started knitting again after several weeks of doing "nothing".
Flowers from my backyard always make me feel better.

People have started registering for
our "Ewe" and Me Fibre Retreat.
Hope "ewe" will also.
All the info is at the shop.

We had a wonderful trip - except for getting sick.
We went on a Danube/Rhine River cruise from Budapest, Hungary to Amsterdam, Holland.
The ship was wonderful and the "things' we saw were unbelievable.
I did take my knitting with me but I did not do much.
Here are a few pictures of me knitting in other countries.
No I did not knit these but this why we knit.
I saw these 2 sweaters in the window of a high end shop in Austria.
The pullover was over 3000 euros and the cardigan was over 4200 euro.
A euro is about $1.30!!

Sitting outside the church in Austria where Maria from The Sound of Music
walked down the aisle and was married.
I also walked down the aisle - kind of interesting in a strange way.
The organ was playing and it was beautiful.
Also saw the row of tall trees the kids were playing in.- guess they are a lot taller now than when the movie was made.
Also walked to and in the Abby that was important in the movie.
Knitting and relaxing on the top deck of the ship as we sailed the Rhine River through Germany.
The river is narrow and we could see so many interesting things as we sailed along.

Only saw a few sheep until we got to Holland and then they were everywhere.

Next week there will be pictures of some of our fall yarns and patterns that have arrived.
There is quite a variety and I am sure you will like them all!!
