Time to Start your Spring & Summer Knitting

As promised, here is a picture of our summer cardigan that Linda knit using Sirdar Flirt. It is so cute! The yarn knits up with a beautiful drape and is lovely to feel. Flirt comes in a super range of colours from pastel to bright - a colour for everyone - see post for March 24th. You can also use Sirdar Baby Bamboo.

What is in the above picture?  It is actually part of the back, the draped fronts and the collar of the cardigan. Believe me - it really is!
The sleeves and the rest of the back are knit in one piece. It is then sewn together and blocked. Blocking is a must with this particular garment. Blocking is easy to do and gives your garment that "professional" look!

The fun thing with this pattern is that you can make one for yourself and even one for a special young girl.
Wouldn't this cardigan make a great accessory to wear on a cool summer evening, to wedding or for a  flower girl, bridesmaid or even the bride to wear.

Sring Yarns

Here are some pictures of a few of our new spring yarns featuring spring - like colours. Aren't the colours wonderful? They are even much prettier in real life!

In the centre is Sirdar Flirt featuring bolder colours. Around the edge is Sirdar Baby Bamboo in more pastel colours. They are both dk weight yarns made with bamboo which gives them a lovely sheen. Linda has just finished a store sample made using the Flirt. I have it at home being blocked. I will post a picture once it is dry. It is so cute!

Our friendly sheep is trying to decide what to knit with the Sirdar Click DK. This popular yarn has introduced these lovely pastel colours for your spring and summer knitting. There is a super selection of patterns for both children and adults using this yarn.

Juicy by Sirdar- What a great name for a summer yarn! It is a bamboo cotton blend that is extremely nice to knit with and has a luxurious feel against your body.

Over the next few days I will send some more pictures of spring yarns by Katia and Classic Elite.

Happy St. Patricks Day

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out how many selections of green yarns there are in the shop. There are green sock yarns, green baby yarns and green medium and chunky weight yarns to choose from. Even green extra thick yarns. There are green yarns with other colours mixed in them and also green ones that self shade. Look at the wide range of green colours in the picture.

The green sweaters from left to right are a fashionable adult sweater in shades of green and rose knit with Marble DK called Moss. In the centre is a cute little girls sweater - knit from the top down (no sewing) - knit with Cabin Fever Cotton Tweed called Lime and knit using their pattern called Sam, Sadira and Katie. On the right is a cosy light green sweater knit with Sirdar Big Softee called Souflee.

I am sure there is a green yarn for everyone and every project!

When I think of St. Patricks Day we think of the colour green and of good luck. So good luck with your green coloured projects or what ever coloured project(s) you are working on.

New Colours in your Favourite SockYarns

A few days ago, I mentioned that we were busy unpacking some new colours in your favourte sock yarns. Well, it is on the shelves now, just waiting for you to admire and start knitting! Here the new colours in Zauberball CrazyTrekking XXL and On Your Toes Bamboo sock yarns. We know that there is a colour for every one!

The Zauberball Crazy colours are really wild with long colour repeats.

The Trekking XXL'has bright colours that call out spring and summer.

Trekking XXL's muted tones are great for the less "adventurist' wearer.
The new Trekking XXL Tweed would show up lace or cable work beautifully. More colours to arrive soon - we hope!
On Your Toes Bamboo is super for warm weather socks as it is very light and absorbs moisture.

Remember sock yarn is obviously wonderful for socks but can be used for many other knitting projects.  A lot of knitters are using it to make lace scarves, shawls, fingerless gloves, slouch hats, etc. Use your imagination as you knit with "sock' yarn.

The Aliens have landed!

The Aliens have just landed at Planet Georgetown Yarn. This is their first trip away their home - Planet USA. Luckily they had a successful voyage & are now resting comfortably in the shop.

The pattern is called Take Me To Your Leader by KnittingatKnoon. The aliens names are Beta with 3 eyes and bobbles, Gamma with 4 eyes and 2 heads, Delta with 1 eye and a very pointed body/head and finally Alpha with 2 eyes and a bit of hair.

They will be visiting for only a short time. To make them feel welcome - I hope you can come in and say "hi "! Be sure to pick up a pattern (includes all 4 aliens) and some colourful yarn, so that you can make your own special aliens for your children, your grandchildren, your friends or yourself (there is a child hidden in all of us)!
There are also patterns for Dinosaurs, the Snowpeople Family and Safari Friends.

Winter, spring and new bags!

I took this picture of this plant in my living room recently. Notice the snow in the background and the abundant pink flowers on the plant. This indicate to me that spring will be here soon. I brought my plant in from my patio at the end of the summer. It only had a few flowers during the whole summer but wow, look at it now. I must have a green (pink) thumb! In case you are wondering the plant is called Bougainvillea.

I am excited to introduce you to our new shop bags! Coincidently the same colour as the flowers on my plant. Also the same colour as on our store sign, business cards, etc. The bags will hold lots of yarn and when not in use, will fold down in to a convenient pouch to carry in your purse. By purchasing one of our lovely new bags and reusing it, there will be less plastic being added to our landfills. Be sure to get a bag for yourself and a knitting friend. You may have guessed by now that pink is my favourite colour!

This is "what" I finished!

The wonderful Olympics is over and I finished my Olympic knitting project - did you finish your project? This is our official sock monkey for the shop - our new mascot! But our mascot needs a name! If you would like to enter our contest to name our pink sock monkey - please be in touch.

Saturday was inventory day. Linda and my friend Marie worked very hard counting all the yarn, needles, patterns and all the other things in the shop. Luckily it is only once a year as there is lots and lots to count and record.

Some new items arrived today - will send pictures soon!
