Knitter's Frolic and Tincanknits

We are busy packing lots of yarn, patterns and more for the Knitter's Frolic this weekend.
To find out more about this event be sure to go to their website.
Remember we will be closing at 3:00 on Friday and closed all day Saturday.
We will include a picture of our booth next week and let you know how it went.

Linda and I went to two yarn suppliers on Sunday and saw so much yarn it was like being in yarn heaven
 - if there is such a thing!
As a result - we have some new yarns in the shop
- some fine lace - alpaca and silk
- some pretty "summer" yarns to make light weight scarves / cowls
- a really thick soft chenille like yarn for baby blankets

I decided I wanted to make a sample from one of the new summer yarns - Isis - for the Frolic
 - so I quickly knit a triangular scarf - big needle (8.00 mm) and ribbon yarn = pretty!

Hooded Sweater - Cotton Tweed

Cotton Tweed by Cabin Fever
has been one of our "go to" yarns for a number of years.
This yarn comes in a wide range of colours and is super for family knitting projects.
It is a cotton / acrylic blend that looks like a cotton and feels like cotton and is very durable.
Our customers knit with it year round.
One of our customers, Heather, recently finished this sweater for her grandson - lucky him!.
Funny thing - she came in to get buttons for the sweater.
I asked her if I could take a picture of her sweater for the blog.
She was very pleased to let me do so - as a result - if you look closely the buttons are not sewn on.
The pattern she used is called Knitted Hoodies where you will find lots of hooded sweaters.

This weekend Linda and I are going to visit to large warehouses full of yarn - lucky us!
It is very overwhelming to see so much yarn but fun at the same time.
This is our chance to get a preview of the new fall and winter yarns.

Busy at the shop with customers - which is great
and also busy getting ready for the
Knitter's Frolic next weekend.
 Remember,
closing at 3 on Friday April 26th
closed all day Saturday April 27th
- so be sure to visit us at the shop before then.

Socks and Sweater

Look at these pretty socks.
Louisa - one of our customers - came in to show me her socks.
Little did she know I was going to ask her to model them for the blog.

Louisa used our Cascade Yarns Heritage Silk Paints
This yarn is a merino superwool / mulberry silk blend.
It feels so wonderful to knit with and to wear.
It would also make an absolutely beautiful shawl, cowl or wrap.
Thanks Lousia for letting me take a picture of your socks!

I have finished knitting my
Antler Cardigan by TinCanKnits.
I used Cascade Yarns - Cascade 220 Superwash in the colour of the year.
We carry a good selection of TinCanKnit patterns - 2 very talented Canadian designers.
More of their patterns are in the mail to us as I do this post.
This picture without the buttons is before I blocked it.
Again before I blocked it but with the buttons sewn on.
Wow, my sweater is blocked and it looks so nice and it fits perfectly.
Blocking did not change the colour - the computer did that.
You take a lot of time knitting your projects - so be sure to take time to block them.
If you do not know about "blocking" be sure to drop by and ask Linda or myself for some help.
You will be glad you did.

New shop sample

We hope that between looking for Easter eggs and eating chocolate that you found some time to knit or crochet.
We have a lovely new shop sample for you to admire and hopefully create one yourself.
Linda has been busy with her needles and look at the great results.
She used Hedgehog Fibre Blue Face Leicester Lace
to make this stunning shawl.
The shawl is light weight and very soft.
We have this yarn in about 12 different beautiful hand dyed colours.
We also have other lace weight yarns that would also look lovely.
The best part of all of this is that we have the yarn and it is a free pattern on Ravelry.
Hope to see you soon so that you can get started on your own special shawl.

The mail man is always busy dropping off boxes of "goodies".
Recently there was new colours of Cascade Yarns and quite a few new books.

We will be having a booth (#46 - to the right of the front door) at the Knitter's Frolic in Toronto
on Saturday April 27th.
As a result we will have special shop hours
  Friday April 26th - closing at 3:00
Saturday April 27th - closed all day
Remember - it is spring in the shop - even if it not so outside!
Hope to see "ewe" soon.
